Tour 2) Taste of the North
On leaving the port of Invergordon the tour will take you west along the northern shore of the Cromarty Firth through the pretty little town of Alness, which has won a number of awards for it’s floral displays, and north towards Struie Hill where you will pause for photos at the dramatic Millionaire’s View.
From this amazing hillside viewpoint you can see north towards Lairg and the distant northern hills and straths of Sutherland, and northeast and east over the Dornoch Firth, Dornoch, and the wider Moray Firth. The tour will then continue around the picturesque Dornoch Firth and into the fine small town of Dornoch. You will have some time here on your own to visit the historic Dornoch Cathedral, and browse in some of the interesting local shops.
While in Dornoch you may also wish to seek out a snack lunch at a local eatery. On reboarding your tour vehicle the tour will head north through Golspie, and on to the magnificent Dunrobin Castle, the historic ancestral home to the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland since the 13th century.
Whilst on your own at the castle you will have plenty of time to take a good look inside, and to walk around it’s amazing gardens. A snack lunch opportunity is also available here. For many the highlight of this tour is to watch the incredible falconry show, a fascinating display of a marriage of minds between an experienced and dedicated falconer and his fine wild birds. The tour is timed to arrive at the castle timely for the falconry display.
On leaving Dunrobin Castle your tour will then return south to your ship at Invergordon.
